My mum was my saviour in the very early days of breastfeeding. My husband had to go back to work after 2 weeks and mum made it her mission to help me overcome the challenges I was experiencing. She did loads of research about the feeding issues I was having and drove to chemists all over the place to hunt down the various ice packs, hydrogel pads and other supposedly miracle cures (i wish!) she’d read about. She paid for a private Lactation Consultant to come see me when I couldn’t get in at the hospital, held my son while I pumped after EVERY feed, cooked meals, did the washing, the list goes on. I really don’t know if I would have been able to persevere like I did without all her help in those painful and stressful early weeks.
